Brzozdowce III, 120 x 90˝, 1973, After Stella, 2016

48 x 42 inches
inkjet print, aluminum frame

The Polish Village pieces are derived from photographs made of black and white reproductions of Frank Stella paintings in a catalog titled “Stella Since 1970” that was designed by Ed Ruscha. For each photograph, the figure/ground relationship of the shaped painting on the yellowing paper has been reversed using an algorithm designed to seamlessly retouch photographs. Each work is framed to match the gentle curve of the page recorded in the original photograph of the book.
