Library Series, 2005-2008

various dimensions
suite of seventeen inkjet prints

The Library series in its complete form shows all of the arrangements of books in my house in July 2005.  These pieces are based on straightforward photographs of each bookcase or stack of books that have been overlaid with virtual three-dimensional volumes constructed from scans of the spine, front and back of each book.  Since scanning produces a very faithful image in terms of lighting, color, and definition, all visible text in each image is legible.  The final pieces are printed at the actual scale of the books, with a simple two-color background showing the shape of the bookcase or shelf overlaid on the wall in the image. Pieces with a plain black background were in storage at the time.
